    CEMETERY CLEANUP

    Cemetery (both Old and New Hope) clean up will begin October 15th. Please have your items removed by that time. Any items left behind will be removed and placed in the dumpster. New items for fall/winter may be added after November 15th. Thank you for your cooperation.

    Hope Township Residents and Cemetery Visitors

        If at any time you visit the New or Old Hope Cemeteries and notice that the grass is in need of mowing, we have not neglected or forgotten to mow.  To minimize mowing expense to the township, we mow every 10 days during the months of May and June when the grass grows fast.  There will be times when at days 8-10 the grass will be tall enough to need mowing, but, it will be done rest assured.   The schedule may be altered slightly so that mowing will be done a day or two before Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.  Later in July – September when the grass grows slower, we mow every 14-15 days or as necessary depending on weather conditions.

    Cemetery Clean-Up

    Cemetery clean-up will begin April 15th.

    Please remove any decorations or items.

    Any items remaining on gravesites will be removed at that time and discarded.

    Hausler Treatment – Mowing Announcement

    APRIL 2023 UPDATE ON WOODY VEGETATION MANAGEMENT AND GUIDANCE ON MOWING OF WIXOM LAKE IMPROVEMENT BOARD JURISDICTIONAL BOTTOMLANDS

    The Wixom Lake Improvement Board will be overseeing helicopter spraying of nuisance woody vegetation this summer in many parts of the main lake bottomlands within its jurisdiction. The treatments are tentatively scheduled for mid to late June. To increase the effectiveness of the treatments, leaves need to be present on the trees for the herbicide to be actively taken up and translocated throughout the entirety of the plant material (including the roots). Due to this process, the lake board is asking that you not mow areas beyond 50 feet from the original Wixom Lake shoreline (where the treatments will be taking place). It is expected to take approximately 2 months (until late August/early September) for the treatment to completely kill the trees after which mowing can resume in the Bottomland areas.   Efforts will be made to remove most of the remaining dead trunks prior to re-filling the lake. However, certain (deeper) areas may remain standing to serve as fish habitat pending discussions with MDNR. However, it is likely that much of the dead, treated, material will not be removed this year. Keep in mind, that management of nuisance woody vegetation is not a one-year effort, it is a multi-year effort with the ultimate goal of the bottomlands being ready for re-filling upon the completion of the dam in a few years. The Wixom Lake Improvement Board is asking that you please have patience in this process.

    Please treat Wixom Lake per the attached map (click here to view) and summarized as follows:

    • 1.25 acre(s) with Emergent Vegetation in channels
    • 43.25 acre(s) of Nuisance Native Plants with terrestrial management in channels

    Schedule for next week, if possible. Pending weather due to foliar application.
