Training

Our firefighters have completed a State approved training program, recognized by the Fire Fighters Training Council. In addition, the majority of firefighters hold an Emergency Medical Services license and work as Medical First Responders under the direction of Midland County Medical Control.

Hope fire personnel meet twice a month at the fire station; business and maintenance checks on the equipment account for one, and fire service or medical training is conducted at the least, once a month. In addition, we encourage our personnel to attend training sessions offered by other local departments, as well as training conferences and summits around the county and state.

Hope Fire Department Officers are responsible for Training and Personnel Development which enables the Fire Department to accomplish its mission.

Training functions include:

  • Recruitment
  • Examinations and Promotional Testing
  • Background investigations
  • Training and Performance Standards
  • Information Management Systems
  • Risk Management
  • Infection Control Program
  • Midland County Protocol Compliance
  • Recent training emphasis:
    Fire-ground Performance Standards
    Truck Operations
    Respiratory Protection –SCBA Operations

Training, in all its forms, is the single most important ingredient in the readiness of firefighters as emergency responders to fulfill their assigned mission.
